Significant
opportunities
Island
Home Avenue:
Water tolerant species should be planted to reinforce the bank along
the river; removal of invasive species is also recommended. Trail access
along the river should be considered with landscape programs.
Sevier
Avenue:
This avenue is characterized by a hodge-podge of sidewalk conditions
and large expanses of asphalt. An overall design for sidewalks and street
tree improvements is needed. Additionally, there is a major planting
opportunity to better define the intersection of Sevier Avenue and Island
Home Avenue where Jersey barriers currently exist.
“Vestal
Village”:
Martin Mill Pike and Ogle Avenue are the center of a potential mixed-use
area, which could include retail and office space and housing. Sidewalk
and street tree programs should be part of an improvement program. There
are large expanses of asphalt along Martin Mill Pike, south of Chapman
Highway that could be significantly enhanced with street trees during
public and private redevelopment.
Moody
Avenue Extension:
The design of the Moody Avenue extension should include sidewalks, which
are separated by planting strips and street trees. A landscaped median
should also be considered.
Kudzu
Removal:
South Knoxville has many areas where Kudzu should be eradicated to recapture
the natural beauty of its woodlands.
Young
High Pike:
Continue an informal planting pattern around the post office.
