Thoroughfares
The three most prominent thoroughfares, Clinton Highway, Western Avenue and Middlebrook Pike are discussed under major corridors.

The recently completed section of Schaad and Callahan Roads, not all of which are in the city, are almost devoid of landscape. A tree-planting program should be undertaken, taking advantage of the median space. Merchant Drive between Clinton Highway and I-75 is also an area that needs particular attention.

Most of the other thoroughfares are two-lane roads that are already lined by a variety of trees. Infill plantings with yard trees are the recommended strategy.

Neighborhoods
Residential development coincided with the suburban growth following World War II. The street patterns include long, grid-like super blocks and curvilinear roads. Sidewalks are rare, and yard trees are generally plentiful. Examples of the neighborhoods include Norwood, Timbercrest and West Hills. Houses in those areas are generally surrounded by large shade trees, small ornamentals and a few evergreens. Continuation of yard street tree planting and maintenance are appropriate.
