Fountain City Park and Lake, and Essary Road:
This area could well be considered the “Heart of Fountain City.” Conservation of the large, deciduous trees and planting native trees around the lake and on adjoining office property is in order. The Bradford pears will have a limited lifespan and should be replaced over time. With the development of the new public library on Essary Road, a program should be undertaken to provide a planting strip and sidewalks leading to the library and high school (this would likely entail replacement of the drainage ditch with a stormwater system). A complementary line of trees should be planted on the south side of Essary Road between the road and the utilities.
