Significant
Opportunities
Park
Ridge, Five Points and Burlington:
There are many opportunities to create tree-lined streets in this these
areas. Planting strips often line the roads. Balanced planting, using
a variety of large and small native trees, and removal of diseased trees
are recommended. The sidewalk system often has gaps in this area and
should also be improved.
The
Mall Roads:
The landscaping has been extensive, particularly along North Mall Road.
However, consistency in design and more landscaping along South Mall
Road are needed. The entrance and exit ramps are also sparsely planted.
Informal patterns, using a combination of large deciduous, evergreen
and ornamental trees, are recommended. Removal of invasive plants should
also be addressed.
Walker
Boulevard:
The old “Dummy” train line is long gone, leaving an opportunity to create
a wide landscaped median with travel lanes east of the First Creek bridge.
Redesign of this area is recommended.
Schools,
churches and other public places:
Tree planting at Sarah Moore Green School and the churches on Brooks
Avenue and the post office on Broadway are prime examples.
