Existing
and Projected Extensions:
Dozens of trees have been planted. However, additional plantings, using
a broad range of native species, should be undertaken. The original
traffic projections were overestimated, giving rise to questions about
the design of the existing section and the extension. The forested landscape,
south of Moody Avenue, could be better protected by a parkway design
(as opposed to a freeway/interstate model).
Recommendations:
- A
variety of trees should be planted in natural patterns at the interchange
areas.
- Infill
on center plantings with random patterns of trees to create a more
natural landscape.
- In
the long-term, move the protective fencing inward toward the parkway
whereby trees could be planted to either side (also plant native vines,
such as trumpet vine, on the fencing).
- Reexamine
need for wide areas of pavement between Sevier Avenue and Moody Avenue,
considering parkway-like alternative
- Use
parkway design to conserve forested areas south of Moody Avenue.
