Alcoa Highway

This major gateway to Knoxville from the airport is indifferently landscaped as it runs through several political jurisdictions (Alcoa, Blount County, Knox County and Knoxville). The bright spot is the University of Tennessee farm and medical center where the first images of Knoxville’s downtown and university come into view. Major reconstruction of the highway will be undertaken in the next few years, starting south of Woodson Drive.

Recommendations:

• Work with the university to continue to plant a variety of trees in the campus and medical center area.
• Create and implement a street tree planting program with the upcoming Alcoa Highway improvements.
