Summary of Input
A series of public workshops were held to identify what residents feel should be accomplished with future planning and development. The following are highlights of those concerns:
Land Use and Neighborhoods
Maintain natural buffer areas including lakes, creeks and steep slopes
Maintain the rural residential character of Lyons Bend, Toole’s Bend, Keller Bend and the southern Choto area
Protect mature trees and natural areas in new developments
Control silt and water runoff from developments
Limit commercial development on Wright’s Ferry Road
Identify locations for multi-family housing including apartments and condominiums
West Knox County Residents review land use proposals.
The underpass at Harvey Road creates access problems for neighborhoods to the south, where much of the new growth is occurring.
Residents support increased efforts to control stormwater runoff.
Transportation
Provide bicycle/pedestrian facilities along Northshore as part of future road improvements
Construct left turn lanes at the Northshore Drive/Lyons Bend Road intersection
Prohibit left turns onto Kingston Pike from Fox Road
Widen railroad underpass on Harvey Road
Community Facilities
Develop a new high school in west Knox County to relieve overcrowding
Create small neighborhood-serving parks
Improve accessibility to public parks and open space along Fort Loudoun Lake
Establish a natural area to serve as a wildlife refuge similar to that of Seven Islands in East Knox County
Create a greenway trail along Ten Mile Creek
Preserve historic resources
Increasing population and good interstate access fuels growth at Turkey Creek.
