A
rural heritage area is intended to protect rural land use patterns,
historic structures, and other culturally significant resources that
contribute to the historic context of the community. Rural heritage
areas generally lie in areas designated as Rural Areas by the adopted
Growth Plan. Typical activities that take place in a rural heritage
area could include farming, livestock production, low intensity residential
development, and passive recreation.

Seven
Islands -Kimberlin Heights Community
The
Seven Islands-Kimberlin Heights Community is a historic, intact agrarian
community comprised of historic family farms and dispersed single-family
housing. This area seeks to protect existing land use patterns, historic
structures, and other culturally significant resources that contribute
to the historic context of the community. This community is located
in a peninsula of land bounded to the north by the French Broad River,
on the south by the Sevier County line, and to the west by Porter Field
Gap Road.
New
Hopewell Community
The New Hopewell Community is a mixed residential community comprised
of rural suburbs, historic family farms, and dispersed single-family
housing. The community seeks to limit the intensity of new residential
development, restrict the development of commercial and office uses
to “neighborhood commercial”, and facilitate a balanced process of land
development and land preservation. The area is bounded to the north
by Governor John Sevier Highway, to the west by Chapman Highway, to
the south by Hendron Chapel Road, and to the east by Sevierville Pike.
