A rural heritage area is intended to protect rural land use patterns, historic structures, and other culturally significant resources that contribute to the historic context of the community. Rural heritage areas generally lie in areas designated as Rural Areas by the adopted Growth Plan. Typical activities that take place in a rural heritage area could include farming, livestock production, low intensity residential development, and passive recreation.

Objectives

  • Limit extensions of sewer, water, and gas
  • Limit road construction improvement projects; no capacity increases
  • Protect slopes, waterways, and natural vegetation
  • Promote land conservancy and agricultural land use
