Parks, Greenways and Open Space

  1. Establish sections of greenway along Beaver Creek through donations, acquisitions and easements. Parks should be established along the greenway to serve as neighborhood and community parks. These parks could be expansions of existing parks or development of new parks to meet the needs of the community. (See Map of Proposed Beaver Creek Greenway)

    a. Acquire property between Emory Road and Beaver Creek just east of Clinton High Highway for development of a neighborhood park.
    b. Create a new community park in the Harrell Road/Emory Road vicinity with access via the proposed Beaver Creek Greenway.
    c. Expand Karns Community Center property to Beaver Creek to provide passive recreation and nature trails.
    d. Develop Northwest Sports Complex along Oak Ridge Highway with access to the proposed Beaver Creek Greenway.
    e. Develop a loop trail around Westbridge Industrial Park as a section of the proposed Beaver Creek Greenway.
    f. Expand Solway Park across George Light Road to provide access to the proposed Beaver Creek Greenway.
    g. Establish a neighborhood park along Beaver Creek at Swafford Road that will serve the residents in that area.

  2. Acquire a park site adjacent to new Ridgedale Elementary School.
  3. Establish Ridgedale School Greenway along ridge in Hines Valley between Ball Road and Ball Camp Pike.
  4. Develop master plan for Melton Hill District Park for passive and active recreation including water sports and boating.
  5. Develop master plan for Harper’s Cave site, which is currently owned by Knox County, to incorporate park and open space facilities in the overall scheme.
  6. Create a greenway along Conner Creek that will link the Pellissippi Greenway to the neighborhoods along Hardin Valley Road.
  7. Expand Pellissippi Greenway north and south along the Pellissippi Parkway.
  8. Develop mountain bike trails on land owned by Knox County along Oak Ridge Highway west of Emory Road.
  9. Acquire land for village green within the proposed Hardin Valley Town Center at Steele Road, North Campbell Station Road and Hardin Valley Road.
  10. Acquire neighborhood park site in the Jenkins Road vicinity.
  11. Preserve the site to the southeast of Cedar Bluff Road and Fox Lonas Road as an open space habitat and flood protection area.

Schools, Libraries and Community Centers

  1. Acquire site for future high school to serve Northwest Knox County residents.
  2. Acquire a new site to relocate Cedar Bluff Primary School.
  3. Acquire site for future Northwest County Branch Library.
  4. Expand the park and land around Melton Hill Community Center

Beaver Creek

A proposed greenway along Beaver Creek will link many neighborhoods and community facilities throughout Northwest County.

Melton Hill Park

Underutilized Melton Hill Park has potential for
recreational developments.
