Conserving Neighborhoods

Over the next 15 years some of the neighborhoods in this sector will become more than 50 years old. Guidelines for these neighborhoods should be developed to ensure compatible infill development and to help retain their special character and individuality.

West Hills

West Hills is one of the established neighborhoods in the sector.

 

Protecting Historically Significant

Properties Protecting historic sites is an important component in the overall preservation of the community. A pre-Civil War frame structure, the Middlebrook Farm House at 4100 Middlebrook Pike near Lonas Drive, is the only structure in the sector listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The farmhouse, built by Gideon Morgan Hazen in 1845, originally was part of a 1,000 acre farm. The York House at 4810 Middlebrook Pike, a two-story brick home built in 1840, is eligible for placement on the National Register of Historic Places.

Jacob Lonas House

Jacob Lonas House, which is located just north of the sector limits at 6341 Middlebrook Pike, is also eligible. This house was built in 1858 by Jacob Lonas, an early Knox County resident who helped to establish the Bearden community.
