Demographic Characteristics

Changes in population and housing characteristics influence land use and capital improvements. Northeast Knox County gained slightly more population than was forecasted by projections developed in the mid-1990’s, and is likely to continue growing at a more moderate rate than historic trends imply, due to a decline in land available for development in other parts of the county.

  • Table 1 shows housing characteristics, including average household size.
  • Table 2 shows population by race, sex and age.

Increasing numbers of children have crowded many schools in the sector. Some are being bused to more distant schools that have available capacity.
