The winning project is Pellissippi State. Their President, Dr. Allen Edwards, the campus Assistant Dean, Rosalyn Tillman, and State Representative deserve a great deal of credit by having the vision to create a community college in the Heart of Knoxville…no longer is it necessary for college-bound students to drive 20 miles in embarking on their education.

Barber McMurray Architects and Carol R. Johnson Landscape Architects formed the design team that was responsible for the transformation. Their goal, to give the former Knoxville Catholic campus its own identity while maintaining the 1950s architectural attributes, was thoroughly realized. Their hope and that of the Commission is that the renovation will spur other quality projects along the Magnolia corridor…certainly, the college now serves as an anchor along the avenue.

The renovation, which included ADA access, lighting, new entrances and windows, was not a high-dollar one. However, it is highly visible one…providing a readily discernable improvement. |
