The commission felt that the design concepts for both the building and its surrounding landscape are exemplary. Cockrill Design and Planning was responsible for the architecture, while Michael Versen oversaw the landscape plans for the grounds and parking areas.

The building was created with great respect to the sloping site. The architects chose a split level design to avoid massive grading. This enabled a reasonable separation of its medical offices, physical therapy wing and administrative center.

The commission found the open nature of the facilities – with views to the natural surroundings – a factor that positively impacts the comfort of patients.

The attention to environmental sustainability is also noteworthy. Rain gardens were created to reduce stormwater runoff. The parking areas are richly landscaped with shade trees. Finally, energy-efficient materials were throughout the building.
