The commission applauds this project for several reasons. One of MPC’s goals is to foster re-investment in central Knoxville. Sysco’s transformation of the old Norfolk Southern rail yards is exemplary in meeting that goal. Their re-clamation project has led to hundreds of new jobs.

Sysco’s design team, AWB Engineering, created a truly remarkable improvement. The commission found the architecture that faces the interstate to be stunning, a bold statement in economic development. The fact that the trucking docks are hidden from public view was also found to be positive. The landscape design was created by Hnedak Bobo. Sysco planted trees throughout the parking lots and grounds…a rarity in a Knoxville industrial setting.
