Neighborhood Housing Inc. is the housing ministry of Knoxville Leadership Foundation, which believes that decent, affordable housing is an essential element of a healthy neighborhood. Their goals are to improve the condition of older homes, and to encourage home ownership. The foundation primarily targets Knoxville ’s central city neighborhoods.

Since 2005, as part of the Affordable Housing Program, the foundation has built 15 houses, generally clustering the dwellings to make a more dramatic impact.

The program typically markets three-bedroom, two-bath houses to lower income families; homebuyer education is required before purchasing a home.

House repair is another major endeavor, carried out through the foundation’s Operation Backyard Home Repair Program. The foundation provides materials and recruits volunteers to make the repairs.

Students often volunteer to make the needed repairs.
