The commission found the reuse of the former White Store to be among the most significant steps in downtown’s retail revival.

The building, originally constructed in 1898, lay as a dormant shell until a few years ago.

The North Carolina-based Mast General store combined forces with office and residential interests to restore this National Register property.

It is truly a mixed use project.

The second floor has been reoccupied by Design Innovation Architects, who prepared the restoration plan.

Condominiums have been created on the upper floors, further enhancing downtown viability.

This outstanding preservation project promises to re-establish yesteryear’s downtown shopping experience for future generations.
