This former residence in the Morningside neighborhood has been transformed into a cultural and educational center, celebrating Knoxville ’s African-American history. The renovation and additions were designed by Sparkman and Associates. The residential setting above Dandridge Avenue has been attractively maintained.

Most visitors enter the center across a courtyard, designed in a basket motif- representing a heritage created from many strands which combine in a symbol of unity.

Well-shaded parking serves visitors and those attending public foundations at the center.

Various resources are available to the public, including a conference center, historical displays...

...and a research library.
