New product development building main entrance wooded campus

A new 44,000-square-foot building was designed to blend into the wooded campus of the corporate headquarters for Bush Beans. A total of three multi-story brick buildings are located on the site. The new structure includes space for the research and development of new product initiatives. Key design objectives were: flexibility to accommodate new R&D initiatives, regulatory agency compliance, a safe and attractive work environment for researchers and staff, and maximum utilization of the site at the company’s corporate campus.

Principal spaces in the facility include: a large product development area; independent development labs; a packaging lab; office, conference and library accommodations for researchers and staff; shipping and receiving; and accessible interstitial spaces for routing of processing, laboratory, and building utilities. Exterior walls utilize brick common to other campus buildings, and the configuration of windows, entrances, and building geometry was designed to harmonize with existing buildings to strengthen a unified campus appearance.

The building's sloped site affords ground-level access to each floor of the three-story building. A fountain and picnic area at a primary pedestrian intersection of campus serves as a campus-unifying element that promotes employee interaction and provides for outside recreational or business activity. Landscaping screens visibility of service vehicle access and shipping and receiving activity at the building’s first floor. Careful design of driveways and parking area allowed for the preservation of many mature trees.
