This year’s winner is Tate’s Gallery. Located near the Cedar Bluff Road/Middlebrook Pike intersection, this new shopping center is a pleasant departure from conventional strip commercial design. Marco Garcia of Architectural Services Group used a brick and stone façade, pitched roof and gables to create a neighborhood-oriented appearance and complement the nearby drugstore. Wide sidewalks, outdoor café space and covered walkways make it a pedestrian friendly place, while its clock tower provides an accent, bringing focus to the center and raising the bar of good urban design in the area. Its one and one-half stories, dormers and gables complement the nearby Tate School of Discovery and residential development.
