Our winner is the Summit Building. This three-story office tower was constructed to complement the other office buildings that are part of this Cedar Bluff complex. Sitting near the site of an abandoned marble quarry, the designersPhilip Royer of Architectural Services Group and Daryl Johnson of Johnson & Associates Architecture along with Luminary Landscapingborrowed from that past, weaving polished stone and rock outcrops into the architectural and landscape architectural features. The brick and marble exterior of the Summit Building complements the adjacent offices and the mix of trees and shrubs that ties the landscape together. The commission found the marble chip walking path to be another pleasant, well conceived feature. It meanders through the site as an exercise trail and provides a connection to Cedar Bluff commercial properties. The parapet along the top of the building hides a rooftop heliport, said to be one of the area's best by FAA inspectors. The Summit Building completes one of Knoxville's most attractive office parks, home to Bell South regional corporate headquarters and several other national companies.
