Our other restoration winner is the Sterchi Building. This project involved the conversion of the landmark Sterchi Brothers home furnishings headquarters into 100 loft apartments. Exterior renovation included repointing the original terra-cotta brick façade, hundreds of new windows that mimic the original industrial steel sash windows, and the total restoration of the entry way canopy. The restoration of the historic Sterchi wall sign was a nice touch that complements this project, particularly in relation to its Old City surroundings.

This project was accomplished through the collaborative endeavors of Leigh Burch and his architects, Goss Piercy Goss. The commission sees the addition of the loft apartments as one of the most dramatic measures of adding housing to downtown Knoxville that has occurred in decades, and it promises to be a key ingredient in the ongoing revitalization.
