Oakwood-Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association

The first of two winners in the Neighborhood/Civic Achievement category is the Oakwood-Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association, representing two of Knoxville’s oldest neighborhoods. The association was formed to create a safer, cleaner community and to maintain its heritage. Neighborhood leaders, wanting to raise the awareness of the association, produce a community newsletter which reaches over 2,000 households on a quarterly basis. The association has worked with the Center for Neighborhood Development to develop a strategic plan. They also created a Community Day which included a job fair, educational workshops, and programs about neighborhood improvements. The association has worked with the city’s Greenway Commission to expand parks and greenway trails and is pursuing a goal to create a neighborhood conservation district.
