Dowell
Springs Business Park
Lewis M. Sansom Scout Center

|
The 2002 winner in the Office category is Dowell Springs Business Park, including the Cornerstone Building and the new Boy Scout headquarters. The park-like qualities of this project, which were designed by Ragan-Smith Associates, are among the best the Commission has seen. Trails meander past lakes and meadows. Its boulevards and sidewalks are lined with maple trees. Historic resources were preserved, including the Civil War-era Lonas Dowell House, which has been handed over to Knox Heritage for restoration. Cornerstone set a impressive standard for future development and the recently completed Lewis M. Sansom Scout Center matches that bar of high quality. Its stone facade and lodge-like design is most appropriate for a scout headquarters. Dollar and Ewers were responsible for its architecture. Its landscaping was designed by David Kendall and includes native trees and shrubs that frame the headquarters and trail leading to the historic spring. |
