Locust Street Parking Garage

Our winner is the Locust Street Parking Garage. The design for this project, which contains retail space at ground level, was prepared by McCarty Holsaple McCarty. We found the structure to be praiseworthy in that its design relates to nearby historic architecture and because pedestrians feel comfortable in walking along its surrounding sidewalks. Barber and McMurry, the architects who prepared the construction documents, were instrumental in creating a multistory, brick façade with openings that mimic the windows of the surrounding offices, condominiums and other older buildings. The simple, attractive graphics provide clarity to direct motorists into the garage, while planters, benches and lighting add to the pleasant street level atmosphere. Built to serve the Convention Center and the UT Conference Center, this garage is an exemplary, worthwhile component to downtown development.
