Engineering: We are pleased to recognize Knox County Parks and Recreation Department for the development of Beverly Park. This 90-acre park includes a paved walking trail, a nature trail and a nine-hole junior golf course, which was designed by David Kendall. The park was gracefully carved from the farm that originally supported Hillcrest Nursing Home. Buildings on the farm were preserved during park construction. The old barn was renovated and is now used as a training facility for the junior golfers, while a log cabin was reused to serve as the clubhouse. The rolling terrain was largely unaltered, serving as a backdrop for trails that are etched across the landscape. Besides the paved trail, a one-mile nature trail runs through meadows and woodlands. In addition to Knox County, other efforts made this park a reality, including construction by the Knox Area Junior Golf Association and funding from the City of Knoxville. |
